Full Control 8BitDo Classic Controller Receiver

Analog Control

The 8BitDo Classic Controller Retro Receiver is mainly intended for the NES and SNES mini Consoles and so only has digital input support. But what if you had a softmodded NES/SNES mini, wii or adapter and needed use of the analog sticks and extra shoulder buttons? Well it looks like 8BitDo thought about this at some point and actually came up with some firmware to do the job. Unfortunatly its old and not always as straight forward as just updating the receiver and may need further steps. Below are instructions on how to get full control with specific controllers.

PS4 Controller

Step 1: Download this zip file:
Step 2: Run “8Bitdo_Retro_Receiver_Tools_for_Update.exe” located in the “RR” folder.
Step 3: Connect your 8bitdo Classic Controller Retro Receiver via usb to your computer while holding the red synk button, the led on the receiver should start flashing green.
Step 4: Click “update” and select “8Bitdo_NesMini_RR_Firmware_v1.05_Beta0.dat” and update.
Step 5: Once updated unplug the retro receiver from your PC and connect it to your console/wiimote/adapter.
Step 6: turn on the console and press the red button on the receiver.
Step 7: Hold Share and the “PS” button on the PS4 Controller.

Once the two have synced, you should now have control of both analog sticks. Note: L3, R3 and the touch pad will have no input.

8bitdo SN30 Pro+

Step 1: Download this zip file:
Step 2: Run “8Bitdo_Retro_Receiver_Tools_for_Update.exe” located in the “RR” folder.
Step 3: Connect your 8bitdo Classic Controller Retro Receiver via usb to your computer while holding the red synk button, the led on the receiver should start flashing green.
Step 4: Click “update” and select “8Bitdo_NesMini_RR_Firmware_V1.08.dat” and update.
Step 5: Once updated unplug the retro receiver from your PC and connect it to your console/wiimote/adapter.
Step 6: Turn on the console and press the red button on the receiver.
Step 7: Hold “B” and “START” on the SN30 Pro+ Controller, it should sync with the receiver.
Step 8: Make sure it has synced and works (only digital buttons will work).
Step 9: Remove the receiver and repeat Step 3.
Step 10: Click “update” on the Updater and select “8Bitdo_NesMini_RR_Firmware_v1.05_Beta0.dat” and update.
Step 11: Reconnect the receiver to the console and press start on the controller to sync them again.

Once the two have synced, you should now have full control including both analog sticks. If you unsync the controller with the receiver you will have to repeat Step 2 through Step 11 again.

8BitDo Pro 2

Currently I have not found a consistant way of syncing the Pro 2 controller to the retro receiver with the “8Bitdo_NesMini_RR_Firmware_v1.05_Beta0.dat” firmware, if you know of a consistant way of connecting the Pro 2 with control of both analog sticks let me know.
